THE CURENT SITUATION OF PERMANENT TOOTH DECAY ON GRADE 5 STUDENT IN HANOI

Abstract

Dental caries is a fairly common disease, causing consequences at many levels for oral and general health. Therefore, purpose of this research was helping dentists have a general view of dental caries situation in children. We conducted this cross-sectional descriptive study to describe the current situation of permanent tooth decay on 502 twelve-year-old students (grade 5), studying at Kim Lien Primary School - Dong Da - Hanoi and Ly Thai To Primary School - Trung Hoa - Cau Giay - Ha Noi. Results: The rate of permanent tooth decay was 61.2%, of which this rate was 57.6% and 65.8% in male as well as female students, respectively. DMFT index was 1.69 ± 2.18 while DMFS index was 2.23 ± 2.86. Conclusion: The rate of permanent tooth decay is relatively high, in which the rate of permanent tooth decay in female students is higher than in male ones. Both DMFT and DMFS indexes of 12-year-old children in this study were high.
