Abstract

Introduction: Endodontic motors with integrated electronic apex locators (EALs) have been developed with the intention of making root canal treatment simpler and faster. However, there are very few studies that tested endodontic motors with integrated EALs. The aim of this in vitro study was to compare the accuracy of working length determination by two endodontic motors with integrated apex locator (VDW.CONNECT and E-Connect). Methods: The in vitro study was conducted on 30 extracted mandibular premolars. After being selected, the teeth were cleaned, preserved, and opened cavities, then coded and randomly divided into two groups. The working length was taken with an endomotor with built in apex locator, with group 1 using E-Connect Pro and group 2 using VDW.CONNECT endomotor. When the file had stopped rotating, a radiograph was taken and the distance from the file tip to apical foramen was measured using ImageJ software. Data were analyzed using SPSS 16.0 software, using Chi square/Fisher's exact test to check the relationship between two groups. Results: The results of the Fisher’s exact test showed that there was no statistically difference between the two groups. Conclusion: There is no difference between VDW.CONNECT and E-CONNECT endodontic rotary motors with integrated apex locator in determining the working length.
