Abstract

Background: The increasing and diverse demand for blood products in clinical departments makes that timely supply of blood products a challenge for blood bank. Objective: To determine the time to supply blood products in 2022 at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital. Subjects and methods: Cohort study conducted on cases requiring blood transfusion at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital from April 1, 2022 to August 30, 2022. The total time and partial times of blood product supply are determined. Chi-square and Mann-Whitney tests are used to compare differences between variables. Results: A total of 427 cases were admitted to the study with the majority being packed red blood cells (67,9%) and dispensed in a routine form (91,1%). The time to supply blood products ranges from 100 - 273,5 minutes during office hours and 85-363,5 minutes during duty hours. No statistically significant differences were noted according to each type of blood product. Factors such as purchasing blood products, condition of testing equipment and blood type have an impact on longer blood dispensing time with the difference between comparison groups being statistically significant. Conclusions: The time to supply blood products between different blood products and forms of blood allocation. In particular, factors such as purchasing blood products, condition of testing equipment and blood type affect to the time to supply blood products
