Main Article Content
Abstract
Backgrounds: Currently, most diabetes treatment recommendations emphasize the importance of advising patients on how to adjust their diet and exercise to control the disease. Objectives: To determine the percentage of compliance with nutrition and exercise regimes in type 2 diabetes outpatients at the Ho Chi Minh City Heart Institute in 2023 and related factors. Methods: a cross-sectional study was conducted on patients with type 2 diabetes outpatients at the Heart Institute from April - May 2023. Nutritional compliance was assessed through 14 questions based on the Ministry of Health's Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes. Exercise compliance was assessed using the IPAQ-SF scale. Results: Data were available for 203 participants with 57.6% women and the age group of 60-69 years old accounted for the majority (50.2%). The rates of compliance with recommended nutrition and exercise regimens were 26.1% and 48.3%, respectively. Factors related to nutritional compliance were education level and time of diagnosis. Factors related to exercise compliance are age group, education level, time of diagnosis, and working. Conclusion: The rate of diabetic patients complying with nutrition and exercise regimens is quite low. The counseling and guidance program for diabetic patients at the hospital needs to focus on older patients with long-term illnesses and low education.
