Abstract

Introductions: Diabetic patients are at risk of serious complications due to COVID-19. Some studies show that hematological and coagulation indices in diabetic patients infected with Sars-CoV-2 are very high. necessary to help doctors predict a patient's condition and make early treatment decisions. Objectives: Describe the characteristics and relationship of peripheral blood cell index and coagulation with disease severity in diabetic patients infected with SARS-COV-2 treated at the National Endocrinology Hospital in 2022-2023. Patients and Methods: 290 diabetic patients diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection. The research method is cross-sectional and retrospective. Results: The proportion of patients with red blood cell count decreased by 28.3%, increased by 4.5%, and hemoglobin decreased by 45.9%. The proportion of patients with increased white blood cell count was 25.9%, while 3.8% decreased; neutropenia 46.9%, decreased 12.4%. Lymphocytes decreased by 47.6%, an increase of 3.1%. The proportion of patients with reduced platelet count was 8.3%, increased by 2.8%. Proportion of prolonged PT was 8.3%, PT decreased by 3.8%. APTT extended by 43.1%, APTT decreased by 2.1%. Fibrinogen increased by 56.6%. D-Dimer quantification increased by 73.1%. The average value of the number of white blood cells, neutrophils, and D-Dimer in the severe and critical COVID-19 group is higher than the mild and moderate group, this difference is statistically significant (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Hematology and coagulation tests on diabetic patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 are very necessary, especially paying attention to the white blood cell index and D-Dimer test to help doctors predict the patient's condition.
