PREVALENCE AND FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH PREOPERATIVE PARENTAL ANXIETY AMONG PARENTS OF CHILDREN UNDERGOING OTOLARYNGOLOGY SURGERY AT HANOI MEDICAL UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL IN 2023

Abstract
Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from February 2023 to August 2023 with 235 parents of children scheduled for otolaryngology surgery at the Center for ENT and Cochlear Implant Surgery - Hanoi Medical University Hospital. The study used the STAI scale to assess the anxiety level of parents of pediatric patients. Results: The overall prevalence of parental anxiety was 36.2%. Some factors related to anxiety include parents under 40 years old (aOR=2.6; 95%CI: 1.2 - 5.4), education level below high school (aOR =3.8; 95%CI: 1.5 – 9.4), child's gender is female (aOR=2.2; 95%CI: 1.2 – 4.0); children have never been hospitalized (aOR=2.0; 95%CI: 1.02 – 4.1); age of children 5 years and older (aOR=2.2; 95%CI: 1.01 – 5.0). Conclusion: These results are the basis for providing appropriate solutions in communication, moral support, psychological counseling and assisting parents in making the best care decisions.
