CHANGES IN KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICE OF SELF-CARE OF THE FEET OF ELDERLY PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES AT NATIONAL GERIATRIC HOSPITAL IN 2023

Abstract
Objective: Evaluate changes in knowledge and foot self-care practices of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes at the National Geriatric Hospital. Subjects and methods: Before-after comparative intervention study (no control group) on 233 people with type 2 diabetes undergoing outpatient treatment, aged 60 years or older, diagnosed and treated for type 2 diabetes minimum 6 months. Results: There was a clear improvement in knowledge with the proportion of patients with good knowledge 1 month after intervention increasing to 83.3% compared to 21.5% before intervention. The proportion of patients practicing good foot care also increased statistically significantly after 1 month, reaching 39.9% compared to 5% before intervention. Conclusion: Initial health education interventions have shown to significantly improve the knowledge and practice of self-care for the feet of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes
