Abstract

Background: Peripheral nerve damage due to diabetes is a common complication, severely affecting the patient's quality of life. Among them, polyneuropathy is the most common group of lesions. Objective: To analyze the quality of life using the EQ 5D 5L scale and some related factors of type 2 diabetes patients with severe polyneuropathy. Study subjects: 82 patients with type 2 diabetes with severe polyneuropathy, inpatient treatment at Bach Mai Hospital from February 2022 to August 2023. Research method: cross-sectional description. Results: Polyneuropathy in people with diabetes affects all aspects of quality of life, most patients are affected to a moderate or severe degree. The average QoL score on the EQ 5D 5L scale is 0.42 ± 0.15, according to the EQ VAS scale it is 38.54 ± 9.72, much lower than the QoL of people with diabetes in general. Patients with older age, low education level, and associated lipid disorders have poorer quality of life. The more clinical symptoms a patient has, the lower their QoL is. The more lesions a patient has on electrophysiology, the lower their QoL. Conclusion: The QoL of patients with type 2 diabetes with severe polyneuropathy according to the EQ 5D 5L scale is much lower than the QoL of people with diabetes in general. Factors that reduce QoL recorded in this study include: advanced age, low education level, dyslipidemia, many clinical symptoms and many electromyography lesions.
