CHARACTERISTICS OF PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT IN CHILDREN WITH CENTRAL PRECOCIOUS PUBERTY AT SAINT PAUL HOSPITAL

Abstract

The incidence of central precocious puberty is increasing. The disease needs to be detected and treated early to improve the adult height of patients and rereduc the psychological impact on children. Aims: Describe the physical development characteristics of children with central precocious puberty at Saint Paul Hospital. Methods: 45 girls were diagnosed with precocious puberty at the General Pediatrics Department of Saint Paul Hospital. Results: The study describes a series of cases. Results: Diagnosis age: 7,8 ± 1.1 years. Breast development is the most common reason for children’s visits, accounting for 73,3%. Normal body mass index accounts for 77,8%, overweight 20%, obesity 2,2%. There were 7 patients (15,6%) whose height was greater than +2SD for their age. Breast development in 100% of patients. Pubic hair develops P2: 15.6%. Menarche: 6.7%. There is a correlation between BMI and the  degree of breast development in early puberty patients with p < 0.05. Concluscion: Children with Precocious Puberty have a higher average height than children of the same age. A higher BMI is associated with earlier breast development.
