KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICE ON CLEANING AND DISINFECTING MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AMONG NURSES AND MIDWIVES AT QUANG NINH OBSTETRICS AND PEDIATRICS HOSPITAL, 2019

Abstract
Medical equipment’s surfaces were the sourses of hospital infection if they were not cleaned and disinfected properly, thus could affect to the quality of service of hospital. This study aimed to investigate knowledge and practice of nurses and midwives at Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics hospital. Cross-sectional study was designed and conducted among clinical nurses using self – administered questionnaire. Whole sample of 131 nurses and midwives was selected. Results show that only 53.4% of nurses and midwives had correct knowledge on cleaning and disinfecting medical equipment and only 61.1% practiced properly. Nurses and midwives who had incorrect knowledge were 14.98 more likely practiced inadequately compared to the other group. It was recommended that the hospital should provide training for their staff and supervise them regularly.
