Abstract

Background: large angle esotropia, a common ocular condition, not only affects visual function but also has aesthetic implications if not treated promptly. This study aims to assess the outcomes of surgery for large angle esotropia in children at the Vietnam National Eye Hospital in 2022-2023. Method: A prospective descriptive study was conducted on 80 patients at the Central Eye Hospital from August 2022 to July 2023. Results: Upon discharge, 73.8% of patients achieved good ocular alignment, 12.5% had fair outcomes, and 13.8% had poor results. After 3 months, the rates improved to 85.0%, 8.8%, and 6.3%, respectively, with statistically significant differences (p<0.05). The success motor alignment at discharge in the groups with 50Δ-69Δ, 70Δ-89Δ, and ≥90Δ, with rates of 77.2%, 66.7%, and 60%, respectively. After 3 months, the success motor alignment in these groups was 89.5%, 88.9%, and 80%, respectively (p<0.05). Conclusion: The patient showed significant improvement both during and after hospitalization and continued to do so three months later. Further research is needed to monitor and evaluate the surgery outcomes for large angle esotropia in children.
