Abstract

Objectives:: Determining the prevalence of Demodex spp. in patients with facial dermatitis in outpatient of Da Nang Dermatology Hospital and some relevent factors. Subjects and methods: a cross-sectional study on 570 patients who came to the hospital with facial dermatitis and were indicaticated Demodex test at Da Nang Dermatology Hospital from February 2. 2021 to November 2021. Results: The rate of Demodex spp. infection in patients who came for facial examination at Da Nang Dermatology Hospital in 2021 was 28.2%. Factors related to people infected with Demodex spp. are: General use of towels (OR= 11.93; 95% CI: 7.46-19.09; P<0.05); raising cats and dogs (OR=5.5; 95% CI: 3.48-8.68; P < 0.05); Use face cream (OR=0.4; 95% CI: 0.27-0.60; p<0.001); Facial hair removal (OR=4.56; 95% CI: 3.08-6.75; p<0.001); Washing face < 3 times/day (OR= 3.15; 95% CI: 2.16-4.59, p= 0.001). Conclusions: The prevalence of Demodex spp. in patients with facial dermatitis coming to the Dermatology Hospital Da Nang in 2021 is high, special attention should be paid to the patient's personal hygiene practices.
