EVALUATION THE RESULTS OF REVISION HIP ARTHROPLASTY AT VIET DUC UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: To evaluation the reasons and  results  of revision hip arthroplasty at Viet Duc university hospital. Methods: A descriptively retrospective study of 34 patients with revision hip replacement at Viet Duc university hospital, from 1/2018 to 1/2023. Postoperative patients were monitored for clinical symptoms and radiographs to evaluate complications Harris functional score and satisfaction level. Results: The mean age is 60,8 (from 32 to 83 years). Men dominate 71%. Average BMI is 22.6. The mean time between two hip replacements is 59,6 months. The most frequent revision cause was aseptic loosening (41,2%), followed by infection (23,5%), instability (17.6%) and periprosthetic fractures (14.7%). The main causes of revision hip replacement in the first five years were infection and instability. The main causes after five years was aseptic loosening. The average operative time is 89.2 mins. The average time of hospital stay is 7.62 days. The majority of patients had improvement in pain score. Harris scores from good to excellent are 72.5%, averaging 17.6%, and bad 8.8%. Conclusion: Aseptic loosening and infection are the most common indications for revision hip replacement. The main causes for revision hip replacement within less than five years are infection and instability, while revision for aseptic loosening is performed especially after five years from the primary hip replacement The revision hip replacement surgery  helps the patients improve the quality of hip mobility and life.
