EVALUATION THE RESULTS OF PARTIAL LARYNGECTOMY WITH VOCAL CORD RECONSTRUCTION AT CHO RAY HOSPITAL FROM 09/2020 TO 06/2021

Abstract

Objective: Evaluation of pronunciation and laryngoscopy images 1 month and 3 months after partial laryngectomy using a false cord flap or an infrahyoid muscle flap to reconstruct the defect. Subjects and methods: Patients diagnosed with early stage laryngeal cancer underwent partial laryngectomy at Cho Ray hospital from September 2020 to June 2021. Results and discussion: VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) score for hoarseness before surgery, 1 month and 3 months after surgery are: 7.6±1.32; 5.3±1.53 and 2.5±1.62, respectively. VAS score at 1 month and 3 months after surgery have an improvement compared to the score before surgery. There was no statistically significant difference between the VAS score of the two reconstruction techniques. The majority of endoscopic images at 1 month after surgery are white slough at the surgical site (60.6%) and at 3 months after surgery are completely healing wound (90.9%). Conclusion: partial laryngectomy with reconstruction of the defect improved the VAS score of hoarseness. The wound healed completely after 3 months on laryngoscopy.
