Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate one - year outcomes and safety of CLEAR surgery for correcting myopic astigmatism. Method: A retrospective study on 886 eyes of 548 patients with myopic astigmatism treated with CLEAR surgery at Hong Son Eye Hospital, Viet Nam from January in 2022 to December in 2023. Patients aged between 18 and 40 years old, with sphere up to – 10.00 D and astigmatism up to – 5.00 D. Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), spherical equivalent refraction (SEQ), astigmatism and axis were measured pre and postoperatively at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. Results: The preoperative mean SEQ was – 6.06 ± 2.23 D, reduced significantly at 1 month (- 0.01 ± 0.05 D, p = 0.000) and remained stable until 12 months (- 0.02 ± 0.51 D) postoperative. The SEQ was maintained within ± 0.50 D was 84.6% and ± 1.00D was 97.9%. The UDVA was 20/25 or better in 97.1% at 12 months. 0.79% of eyes had scar and lost one line of CDVA and no eyes lost two or more lines. No suction loss during operation and no other complications. Conclusions: CLEAR surgery is an effective and safe treatment for myopic astigmatism patients.
