Abstract

DISC HERNIATION

Objective: To evaluate the analgesic effect of Galantamine aquapuncture combined with electroacupuncture and “Shen Tong Zhu Yu Tang” in treating Sciatica due to Lumbar disc herniation. Methods: Prospective study, controlled clinical trial, before-after intervention study. Study subjects: 60 patients with a clinical diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation and lumbar disc MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) examination, with 3 ≤ VAS ≤ 7 (Visual Analogue Scale) were randomly divided into 2 groups: both were treated with Shen Tong Zhu Yu Tang and electroacupuncture, the study group combined with Galantamine aquapuncture for 15 days. Results: Following a 15-day course of treatment, the study group's average VAS score decreased from 5.93 ± 0.52 (points) to 2.10 ± 0.80 (points); the control group's average VAS score decreased from 5.90 ± 0.40 (points) to 2.70 ± 0.70 (points); this difference is statistically significant at the p-value of less than 0.05. The study group's daily living function assessment index (ODI - Oswestry Disability Index) increased from 17.10 ± 3.68 to 30.97 ± 3.09, while the control group's increased from 18.30 ± 3.40 to 28.50 ± 3.0. Conclusion: Galantamine aquapuncture combined with electroacupuncture and “Shen Tong Zhu Yu Tang” have effects in treating Sciatica due to Lumbar disc herniation.
