SMALL BOWEL OBSTRUCTION DUE TO METASTASIS FROM PYRIFORM SINUS CANCER: A CASE REPORT
Main Article Content
Abstract
The hypopharynx is the lowest part of the pharynx, where the gastrointestinal tract meets the respiratory tract. Pyriform sinus cancer is the most common type of throat cancer. Small bowel obstruction secondary to cancer metastasis in the hypopharynx has been reported very rarely in the literature. Cancer in this area usually metastasizes by lymphatic route to the neck and chest, and the most common site of metastasis is in the lungs. In rare cases, the metastasis of cancer will follow the bloodstream to the digestive organs such as the liver, stomach, small intestine, colon. Tumor metastases to the small intestine can cause complications such as intestinal obstruction, gastrointestinal bleeding, intestinal perforation. When these complications are present, surgery is the method of choice to save the patient's life. On the occasion of a case of small bowel obstruction due to metastatic nasopharyngeal cancer, we report that the clinical case was successfully diagnosed and treated with supportive laparoscopic surgery and reviewed the literature on this pathology
