Abstract

Objective: To study the clinical and paraclinical characteristics and bacterial etiology of cancer patients with sepsis. Research subjects and methods: Cross-sectional study on 32 patients diagnosed with sepsis at the Emergency and Intensive Care Department - K Hospital from March 2022 to November 2022. Results: The average age was 52.13 ± 18.34, the male/female ratio was 1/1.1, the hospital infection rate was 68.7%. Bacteria enter through the digestive tract, liver and bile account for 31.3%. Fever (>38.5oC) 84.4%; tachycardia (> 90 beats/minute) 78.1%; hypotension 34.4%; Increased white blood cells (> 12G/l) 62.5%; leukopenia (<4 G/l) 25%; anemia 93.7%, thrombocytopenia 53.1%, kidney failure 34.4%. The most common bacteria are E.Coli 34.4% and K.pneumoniae 18.8%. E.Coli is also sensitive to the carbapenem group at 81.8 - 90.9%, 50% of K.pneumoniae isolates are resistant to carbapenems. Conclusion: The main entry route for bacteria is the digestive tract, hepatobiliary system, and mostly hospital infections. E.Coli and K.pneumonia are the two most common bacteria, which are also sensitive to the carbapenem group
