NON-ALCOHOLIC FATTY LIVER DISEASE IN PEDIATRIC PATIENTS AFTER LIVER TRANSPLANTATION – A CASE REPORT
Main Article Content
Abstract
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the leading causes of chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide, with an estimated prevalence of 25%. The incidence of NAFLD post liver transplantation (LT) is on the rise. NAFLD is defined as the presence of fatty liver or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in patients undergoing LT for indications other than non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. We report a case of post-LT hepatic steatosis diagnosed, treated, and monitored at the National Children Hospital. The patient, an 18-month-old female, exhibited increased AST, ALT, and GGT levels after transplantation from day 29, an ultrasound showed diffuse hepatic echogenicity, and the diagnosis was confirmed by liver biopsy. The purpose of this article is to raise clinical awareness regarding NAFLD after LT
