PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE OF FEET CARE OF TYPE 2 DIABETES PATIENTS RECEIVING OUTPATIENT TREATMENT AT YEN THE DISTRICT MEDICAL CENTER IN 2022

Abstract

care practice knowledge and propose some solutions to improve foot care practice knowledge for type 2 diabetes patients at Yen The District Medical Center in 2022. Subjects and research method: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 30 people with type 2 diabetes who came for outpatient examination and treatment at the department of general internal medicine, Yen The District Medical Center in 2022. Results: 73.3% of patients do not have the habit of checking blood sugar daily, 70% of patients do not have the habit of checking their feet daily; 33.3% of patients washed their feet with warm water every day; 16.7% of patients had dry feet, especially the area between the toes; 13.3% of patients know that they need to soak their feet in warm water before cutting their toenails; 23.3% of patients know that toenails should be cut horizontally, not deep into the corner of the nail; 10% of patients know they need to apply moisturizer when their feet are dry and 20% of patients know they need to massage their feet every day, 30% of patients said they need to exercise their feet; 30% of patients know how to choose soft, comfortable shoes; 23.3% of patients checked shoes before wearing them; 53.3% of patients washed and cared for ulcers at home; 76.7% of patients only came for examination and had the extent of damage checked when the ulcer became more severe; 56.7% of patients needed medical staff to care for their ulcers. Conclusion: Most patients do not have the habit of checking blood sugar and checking their feet every day. Practical knowledge about foot care: such as how to choose shoes, recognize signs of abnormalities and infections in the feet, and patient knowledge when there is damage to the feet is still low. Therefore, nurses need to diversify health consulting activities and organize training sessions on practical foot care knowledge for people with diabetes.
