PREVALENCE OF SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION IN PATIENTS WITH MAJOR DEPRESSIVE DISORDERS AT UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER, HO CHI MINH CITY

Abstract

Sexual dysfunction is very common in patients with major depressive disorder. Currently, very few studies in Vietnam have been conducted to evaluate this frequency. Research objective: Determine the rate of sexual dysfunction in patients with untreated major depressive disorder at University Medical Center at Ho Chi Minh city. Research subjects and methods: descriptive cross-sectional study of 104 patients in depressive episodes treated as outpatients at the neuropsychiatry clinic of University Medical Center from March 2023 to October 2023. Results: 53.8% of male patients and 78.2% of female patients with major depression had sexual dysfunction. In men, 34.6% of patients had reduced sexual desire, 26.9% had problems with arousal, 23.1% had problems related to erectile dysfunction, 30.8% had problems with employment. orgasm and 34.6% reported no voyeurism when reaching orgasm. In women, 59% reported decreased sexual desire, 51.3% had problems with sexual arousal, 32.1% had problems with vaginal lubrication during intercourse, and 50% did not reach orgasm. orgasm and 48.7% were not satisfied even though they had reached orgasm.
