BUILDING A MODEL FOR SECONDARY DATA ANALYSIS IN STUDYING THE EFFECTS OF STATINS ON INTRACRANIAL HEMORRHAGE

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the correlation between statin therapy and the risk of intracranial hemorrhage by simulating a randomized trial using Vietnamese Social Insurance data. Subjects and methods: 435,592 patients (>18 years old) with a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack were recruited from January 1, 2017 to August 1, 2022 from the VSI database. Results: Statins increase the risk of intracranial hemorrhage in patients with a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack. The risk of intracranial hemorrhage was developed within two years after statin initiation or continuous use in comparison with the group not using statins. Although statins reduce cardiovascular events and mortality, it is important to carefully assess the risk of intracranial hemorrhage when prescribing statins to patients with a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack. Conclusions: The decision to use statins should be based on individual patient characteristics, considering the benefits and possible side effects of statin treatment
