Abstract

Objectives: Research on catheter preservation and some related factors in hemodialysis patient at Saint Paul hospital. Subjects: 209 sessions equivalent to 39 patients underwent hemodialysis at Saint Paul hospital from April, 2023 to August, 2023. Method: cross-sectional study. Results: The rate of using conventional catheters is 98.56%, tunnel catheter is 1.44%. Before dialysis, observed signs included: swelling at the catheter leg 5.7%, dirty dressings 1.4%, blood-soaked dressings 1.4%, fluid-soaked dressings 0.5%, there was no hemodialysis session where the fixation tape slipped. During dialysis, observed signs included: not enough catheter‘s pressure 3.3%, catheter slipping out of fixed position 1.4%, bleeding from catheter site 0.5%, there were no dialysis sessions with catheter blockage. The rate of dialysis catheter preservation time > 30 days in the male patient group was greater than that in the female patient group, the difference was statistically significant with p < 0.05. There was no relationship between catheter preservation time and factors: age, education level, diabetes, albumin, dirty bandage before dialysis, and swelling of the catheter site before dialysis.
