SURVEYING SOME RISK FACTORS OF HYPERTENSION IN BUDDHIS NUN AT THE BINH DUONG CITY AREA

Abstract

Objective: To investigate some risk factors of hypertension in  Buddhis nun over 40 years old at the Binh Duong city area. Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study, convenient sampling on 295 female monks over 40 years old in Binh Duong city area. Results: The group 40-49 years old was highest percentage (47.80%), the lowest is the group over 80 years old (5.08%). Intermediate Buddhist education level was highest percentage (43.73%), the lowest is the group with post-graduate Buddhist education level (5.08%). Among the total of 295 Buddhis nun, the number of Buddhis nun without hypertension (23.99%) was lower than the Buddhis nun with stage I hypertension (44.10%) and stage II hypertension (32.20%), stage III hypertension accounted for lowest rate (2.71%). Buddhis nun in the group 40-49 years old was  highest percentage of hypertension (36.91%), of which the majority have stage I hypertension (47.70%), but no one hástage III hypertension. The group of Buddhis nun with the hypertension over 80 years old was lowest rate (5.15%) and in this group there is no one with stage III hypertension. The number of Buddhis nun with stage II and III hypertension is high among those who have a saltier diet, eat less vegetables and are overweight. Conclusion: The number of Buddhis nun with stage I hypertension was highest proportion and this number is concentrated in the group 40-49 years old, however no one has stage III hypertension in this group. Buddhis nun in the  roup 50-79 years old had all three stage of hypertension equally, but in the group over 80 years old, no one had stage III hypertension. Buddhis nun have a more salty diet, eat less vegetables, and have a high rate of overweight in the stage hypertensive II and III.
