CHARACTERISTICS OF SLEEP DISORDERS IN PATIENTS WITH PARKINSON

Abstract
Objective: To identify some factors related to sleep disorders in Parkinson's patients. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 133 patients diagnosed with Parkinson who were examined and treated at the National Geriatric Hospital. Participants were diagnosed with Parkinson's according to The UK Parkinson's Disease Society Brain Bank clinical diagnostic criteria. Sleep quality was assessed using the PSQI scale. Results: The mean age was 67.8 ± 5.9 (years). The prevalence of sleep disorders in Parkinson's patients according to the PSQI scale was 94%. Sleep disorders was significantly associated with age 50 - 59 years old; poor quality of life according to the PDQ8 scale. Conclusion: The prevalence of Parkinson's patients with sleep disorders is high. Routine screening for sleep disorders should be conducted for older people with Parkinson's disease to contribute to improving the quality of life for people with Parkinson's disease.
