Abstract

Background: Providing adequate and proper nutrition during childhood is an extremely crucial factor for both physical health and mental development of children. Having the correct knowledge and attitude is a prerequisite for effectively practicing proper supplementary feeding for infants. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of determining if mothers possess the correct knowledge and attitude regarding complementary feeding for their children. Objectives: Identifying mothers with correct knowledge, appropriate attitudes, and relevant factors related to the introduction of complementary feeding at the Tra Vinh Pediatric Hospital in 2023. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study employing a convenient sampling method was undertaken among mothers with children under 24 months of age, who were attending medical examinations at the Tra Vinh Pediatric Hospital between April 2023 and June 2023. Conclusion: The study results indicate that 81.1% of mothers have correct knowledge regarding the appropriate age (6 months) to start complementary feeding. Moreover, 70.9% of mothers strongly agree that introducing complementary feeding is a crucial issue. The conclusion reveals that 83.4% of mothers have correct knowledge, and 72% exhibit proper attitudes toward introducing complementary feeding. Age is significantly associated with mothers' knowledge (p < 0.001), with older mothers having a 1.24 times higher likelihood of possessing correct knowledge compared to younger mothers.
