NUTRITIONAL STATUS AMONG OLDER PATIENTS HAVING HYPERTENSION IN NATIONAL GERIATRIC HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: To assess the prevalence of malnutrition among older patients having hypertention in National Geriatric Hospital. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in hypertensive older patients in 2023. Nutritional stutus was assessed by using MNA – SF (Mini Nutritional Assessment – short form). Results: A total of 374 patients was recruited in the study. The mean age of study population was 76.1±7.4 years. The rate of female was 62.3%. The duration of hypertensive diagnosis on average was 8.7 ± 6.8 years. The prevalence of malnutrition and risk of malnutrion were 9.1% and 27.8%. According to statistical results, the proportion of malnourished patients with uncontrolled blood pressure accounts for 32.4%, 44.1% of malnourished patients have hypertension for more than 5 years, 23.5% of patients do not comply. treatment and 44.1% of patients did not follow a salt-reducing diet. Conclusion: The prevalence of malnutrition in older hypertensive patients was 9.1%. It is necessary to have appropriate intervention methods for these patients.
