Abstract

Objective: To study the jaw width of oral and maxillofacial students at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi as a basis for predicting the circumference of artificial incisors depending on the palate size. Subjects: The study sample included 30 females and 32 males with class I occlusion at the age of 18-25. The width of the upper and lower jaws was measured at many different landmarks on the jaws using digital venire calipers and analyzed using Rx64 3.5.1 software. Results: The distance between the central fossa of tooth 16 and tooth 26 is 49.80 mm, the central fossa of tooth 36 and tooth 46 is 43.55 mm, no statistically significant difference between men and women. The distance between the two mesiobuccal cusp tips of upper tooth 6 is 55.35mm, and lower tooth 6 is 46.38mm. The distance between the two distal cusp tips of upper tooth 7 is 61.8 mm and lower tooth 7 is 56.28 mm. Conclusion: The jaw width of maxillofacial students at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, VNU, Hanoi between the two mesio-buccal cusp tips of the upper 6th tooth is 55.35mm, the lower 6th tooth is 46.38mm. The distance between the two distal cusp tips of upper tooth 7 is 61.8 mm and lower tooth 7 is 56.28 mm. The jaw size of young people in northern Vietnam is larger than the jaw size of young people in southern Vietnam and some other races in the world.
