THE EFFECT OF ACUPRESSURE MASSAGE COMBINED WITH ELECTRIC ACUPUNCTURE AND “QUYEN TY THANG” ON TREATING NECK PAIN WITH CERVICAL SPONDYLOSIS

Abstract

Objectives: Evaluating the effectiveness of pain relief, quality of life, and range of motion by acupressure massage combined with electric acupuncture and Quyen ty thang on treating neck pain with cervical spondylosis. Subjects and methods: The subjects were patients with neck pain due to cervical spondylosis treated at Can Tho Hospital of Traditional Medical. The study group was treated by acupressure massage combined with electric acupuncture and Quyen ty thang”. The control group was treated by electric acupuncture and Quyen ty thang”. Results: After 14 days of treatment, in the study group, the mean VAS score decreased from 7,23 ± 0,58 to 2,33 ± 0,78 points. The method improved the range of cervical spine motion. The mean NPQ score decreased from 27,13 ± 1,84 to 5,96 ± 2,73 points. Symptoms of Traditional Medicine including pain, limited movement, and tiredness in the study group more improved than in the control group (p<0.05). Fear of cold, thin white tongue coating, and deep pulse in the study group and the control group did not differ (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The treating method using massage combined with electric acupuncture and “quyen ty thang” shows a pleasing outcome during treatment for neck pain with cervical spondylosis.
