Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the prevalence of cardiovascular disease in the elderly in Ha Giang hospitals. Subjects and methods: A retrospective study of all medical records of elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases treated as inpatients at Ha Giang General Hospital from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2021. Results: The proportion of male patients with cardiovascular disease being treated at Ha Giang General Hospital tends to increase from 48.8% in 2017 to 53.4% in 2021. Valvular heart disease (30.8%), hypertension (20.4%), arrhythmia (20.2%), heart failure (19.8%) and chronic ischemic heart disease (18.3%) were the most hospitalized cardiovascular disorders. In addition, over the previous five years, the two categories of cardiovascular diseases have experienced the most glaringly opposite changes: the rate of the ischemic heart disease has increased (from 11.2% in 2017 to 24%), while the rate of the valvular heart diseases has decreased (from 36.7% in 2017 to 27% in 2021). Conclusion: Valvular heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmia, heart failure and chronic ischemic heart disease were the most common cardiovascular diseases at Ha Giang General Hospital.
