Abstract

Objectives: Assessing the role of boey's score in predicting mortality and morbidity after surgical treatment of perforated peptic ulcer. Methods: This is a retrospective case series study. The study was conducted at Cho Ray Hospital in Viet Nam from January 2021 to December 2022, meets the sampling criteria in the study. We used receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis to evaluate the predictive ability of the Boey score. Results: The study included 255 patients. Overall mortality was 25.5% and morbidity was 54.1%. The mortality rate increased progressively with increasing numbers of the Boey score: 0%, 2.3%, 31.9%, and 70.1% for 0, 1, 2, and 3 scores, respectively (p<0.001). The morbidity rates for 0, 1, 2, and 3 Boey scores were 12.5%, 26.7%, 75%, and 98.2, respectively (p<0.001). The AUC of boey score in predicting mortality is 0.878 and complications is 0.862. Conclusions: Perforated peptic ulcer is a common disease associated with high rates of mortality and morbidity. The Boey score serves as a simple and precise predictor for postoperative mortality and morbidity
