Abstract

Gestational diabetes is the most common metabolic disorder during pregnancy and tends to increase. Gingivitis in pregnant women with gestational diabetes has not yet been studied and reported in Vietnam. This study was conducted with the aim of describing the status of gingivitis in pregnant women with gestational diabetes and analyzing factors related to gingivitis in this group. Subjects and research methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 100 pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes at the Department of Examination, Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital from June 2023 to December 2023. Clinical indices assessed include: Gingival Index (GI), Oral Hygiene Index - Simplified (OHI-S), Clinical Attachment Loss (CAL), Pocket Depth (PD), Bleeding on Probing percentage (%BOP). Data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 20.0 and Minitab 18.0 software. Results: The rate of healthy gums in the GDM group was 8%, the rate of gingivitis was 92%, of which severe gingivitis accounted for 26% and 22% of pregnant women showed signs of attachment loss. Conclusion: Gingivitis in the GDM group has a very high rate, and tends to increase with gestational age and is affected by blood glucose levels and oral hygiene status. More specific guidance on oral hygiene care for the GDM group is needed to reduce the risk and severity of periodontal disease and gingivitis in this group.Top of Form
