CLINICAL AND PARACLINICAL FEATURES RELATED TO GREEN PIT VIPER BITE AT NGHE AN GENERAL FRIENDSHIP HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: to characterize clinical and subclinical manifestations of the patients with Trimeresurus albolabris bite treated at the Poison Control department at Nghe An General Friendship Hospital. Subjects and Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out on 117 patients bitten by Trimeresurus albolabris from July 2022 to December 2023. Results: There were 117 cases within the study period. Patients were predominantly male (57,3%) with a mean age of 45,25 ± 18,41 years. The common appearances of the bite site were respectively the fang marks 100%, pain 96,6%, swelling 80,3% and local bleeding 36,8%, necrosis 1,7%, compartment syndrome 0,8%, blister 0,8%. Subclinical disorders including hypofibrinogenemia 73,3%, decreased prothrombin 28,2% and thrombocytopenia 6%, bedside coagulation test >20 minutes is positive 47%, increased CK 17,9%, no acute kidney injury. There was no death in this study. Conclusion: The study has described the main clinical and subclinical characteristics of Trimeresurus albolaris bite at the Poison Control Department in Nghe An.
