Abstract

Objectives: to evaluate the content validity and internal reliability of the VEINES-QoL/Sym scale in patients with deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremity at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. Methods: An Expert Council was etablished consisting of 5 vascular specialists, with expertise from master's degree or higher, to evaluate content validity using a 4-level scale. Content validity was assessed through CVI and Kappa indexes. After forming the Vietnamese version of the scale, this study was conducted on 30 patients diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremity at the Thoracic-Vascular Clinic and Cardiovascular Clinic, Department of Medical Examination, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City. Internal reliability was reported by Cronbach's Alpha index. Results: Twenty-six questions of the Vietnamese version of VINES-QOL/Sym all have I-CVI=1, Pc=0.03, Kappa=1, full-scale content value S-CVI=1. All questions showed a satisfactory total variable correlation ≥ 0.3 with correlations ranging from 0.31 to 0.8. The internal reliability of the entire scale was at excellent level with Cronbach's Alpha of 0.90. The Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of each field met the requirement of greater than 0.7, specifically for VEINES-QOL it is 0.90 and VEINES-Sym is 0.86. Conclusion: the Vietnamese version of the VEINES-QOL/Sym scale had good content validity and good internal reliability, which is suitable for assessing quality of life in deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremity patients in Vietnam
