Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: This study aims to investigate the frequency and describe the clinical features, laboratory findings, and endoscopic images in patients with colonic diverticulitis. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at Hoang Long General Clinic from August 2023 to August 2024. The study subjects were patients who underwent colonoscopy and met the selection criteria. Clinical information, laboratory findings, and endoscopic images of patients with colonic diverticulitis were collected and classified according to the DICA (Diverticular Inflammation and Complication Assessment) score. Results: A total of 945 colonoscopy patients were recruited, with 171 patients having diverticula (18.1%), with the diverticula most commonly appearing in the cecum (54.4%) and ascending colon (48.5%). The majority of patients had uncomplicated diverticulitis (DICA 1), accounting for 95.3%, while severe diverticulitis (DICA 3) accounted for only 3.5%. Patients with diverticulitis had significantly higher white blood cell counts compared to the non-inflamed group. Conclusion: The frequency of colonic diverticula in colonoscopy patients is high, with most cases being uncomplicated.
