Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: The study aims to identify the outpatient ear, nose, and throat (ENT) disease patterns in children at Children's Hospital 1 from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2023, and to assess trends in disease pattern changes after the COVID-19 pandemic. Subjects and Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted based on data from the hospital's patient management system (HIS) on pediatric patients seen at the ENT specialty clinics in the Outpatient Department during the study period. Results: Over four years, there were 212,563 outpatient ENT visits, accounting for 4.8% of the total outpatient visits at the hospital. A total of 178 ICD-10 codes were recorded. However, these codes were widely distributed, with the five most common codes being adenoiditis and tonsillar hypertrophy (23.1%), allergic rhinitis (18.4%), chronic otitis media (15.9%), acute sinusitis (12.4%), and acute pharyngitis (7.1%). The average treatment duration was 6.63 days, and the average number of medications per visit was three. There was a significant increase in the proportion of patients diagnosed with allergic rhinitis after the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: ENT conditions account for a high percentage of outpatient visits. The increase in ENT disease, particularly allergic rhinitis after the COVID-19 pandemic, highlights the need for special attention in developing community-based preventive intervention strategies.
