Abstract

Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of dorsal plication in correcting penile curvature in children with midshaft hypospadias. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted on 33 patients with midshaft hypospadias and penile curvature of less than 30 degrees, who underwent surgery at Children's Hospital 1 between December 2023 and June 2024. Clinical factors, surgical outcomes, and complications were monitored and evaluated at 1, 3, and 6 months post-surgery. Results: Penile curvature decreased from 24.27 ± 3.17 degrees preoperatively to 2.5 ± 1.25 degrees at 6 months post-surgery. The average penile length after surgery was 32.99 ± 2.76 mm, a slight increase compared to the preoperative length of 31.85 ± 2.63 mm. Early complications accounted for 15%, while late complications, mainly urethral fistula, accounted for 12,12%. The mean penile perception score (PPPS) was 12.67 ± 2.93 points. The overall outcomes for hypospadias repair were rated as 51.5% good and 48.5% average. The success rate for correcting penile curvature was 100%, with no recurrences or reoperations after 6 months. Conclusion: Dorsal plication is an effective option for treating mild to moderate penile curvature, offering aesthetic and functional improvements with minimal serious complications.
