Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Continuing Medical Education (CME) is an important training activity in maintaining and developing medical human resources. Understanding the training needs of medical staff, building a human resource development project suitable to the situation of the unit and meeting the general trend plays an important role in developing high-quality human resources. Objective: Describe the current situation, identify needs, and factors related to continuing education in 2021-2022. Subjects and Research Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted, involving an analysis of 919 high school students from grades 10 to 12 in Vinh Long province. Two classes were randomly selected from each grade level, totaling four high schools in Vinh Long province. Results: The study showed that the proportion of medical staff provided with information on continuing education was up to 98%, of which the source provided by the hospital accounted for 80.3%, 39.4% of the subjects had not attended any training courses due to lack of time (14.9%), not necessary (6.4%) or unable to arrange people (5.2%). Training needs were concerned with improving technical expertise, communication and media skills, the expected training time was about 2-5 days and should be supported financially. The solution to improve training quality should improve the quality of on-site lecturers, specialized training should be practiced at upper-level hospitals. Conclusion: Continuing Medical Education is of interest to hospitals, but for many reasons, medical staff have not yet accessed and participated in enough to meet their needs. Organizing continuing education that closely follows the needs of medical staff and the development direction of the unit will help bring about increasingly improved training efficiency, meeting the development needs of medical staff and the unit.
