Abstract

Objective: To describe the characteristics and outcomes of uterine cavity aspiration in women aged 30–49 years at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Subjects and methods: A prospective descriptive study was performed on 191 women aged 30–49 years. Data were collected through structured interviews and standardized outpatient records at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology from July 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. Results: The mean age was 42.2 ± 5.0 years; women aged 40–49 years accounted for 71.2%. A history of menorrhagia or abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) was reported in 31.9%. The mean endometrial thickness was 12.2 ± 5.4 mm, with 64.4% having a thickness ≥10 mm. Indications for uterine cavity aspiration were primarily menorrhagia, AUB, or menometrorrhagia (84.3%). The mean time to hemostasis was 4.5 ± 1.8 days, and 96.3% achieved hemostasis within one week. Histopathology showed normal in 55.5%, benign endometrial hyperplasia in 31.9%, endometrial polyps in 11.0%, and atypical endometrial hyperplasia in 1.6%. Significant associations were found between histopathological findings and both age and endometrial thickness. Conclusion: Uterine cavity aspiration was most frequently indicated for menorrhagia, abnormal uterine bleeding, or menometrorrhagia. Nearly half of the cases demonstrated endometrial pathology, predominantly among women aged 40–49 years and those with endometrial thickness ≥10 mm.
