TREATMENT RESULT OF LOWER EXTREMITY VASCULAR INJURIES AT CHO RAY HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: Lower extremity vascular injuries are serious surgical emergencies, with a high risk of limb ischemia, necrosis, or death if not diagnosed and treated promptly. Assessment of clinical features, injury morphology, and treatment results will contribute to improving emergency and surgical procedures. Objective: Evaluation of clinical characteristics, lesion morphology and treatment results of lower extremity vascular injuries at Cho Ray Hospital. Patients and methods: A retrospective descriptive case series was conducted from January to September 2025 at Vascular Surgery Department, Cho Ray Hospital. Results: The mean age was 40.9 ± 15.6 years; 67.1% were male. Vascular trauma due to traffic accidents is the main cause (81.4%). Common injuries were the popliteal artery (48.6%) and the artery below the knee (41.4%). The main types of injuries were complete avulsion (51.4%) and thrombotic contusion (44.2%). The main surgical techniques included end-to-end anastomosis (61.4%) and autologous saphenous vein grafting (34.3%). Early complications were rare: embolism 2.9%, surgical site infection 1.4%, amputation 1.4%; no deaths. Conclusion: Lower extremity vascular injuries at Cho Ray Hospital are mainly due to traffic accidents, concentrated in young men. Vein anastomosis or grafting surgery gives good results in restoring circulation, with low complication rates. Early detection and timely treatment are needed to optimize treatment results.
