Abstract

Objective: Analysis of the use of blood and blood products for treatment at Hai Duong Provincial General Hospital from January to June, 2024. Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional description of blood donor records and blood and blood product distribution at Hai Duong General Hospital in 2024. Results: Blood used is collected from: over 96.1% of voluntary blood donors, 3.1% of relatives, and 0.8% of professional donors; 94% were collected at mobile blood donation points, the most in Hai Duong city. Screening: Serological techniques detected HBV infection: 1.8%, HCV: 0.5%, HIV: 0.1%, and syphilis: 0.2%; NAT technique: HBV infection: 0.1%; Abnormal antibodies: 0.1%. Use of blood and blood products for treatment with 62% red blood cell preparation, plasma: 33.6%, Platelet concentrate pool: 3.9%, Platelet concentrate apheresis: 0.5%. The amount of blood produced: 89.5%. Distribution: the most is group O (46%), the lowest is group AB (4.6%), Rh (+): 99.9%, Rh (-): 0.1% in clinical departments, most of which are Gastroenterology and Clinical Hematology, many departments do not transfuse any units. Conclusion: Blood used in hospitals is mainly taken from blood donation subjects in Hai Duong city, screened for infectious diseases by serological techniques and NAT techniques, detecting a small percentage of HBV, HCV and HIV, syphilis infection; the amount of blood meets 89.5%, the most is group O.
