Abstract

Objective: Describe clinical and paraclinical characteristics and some related factors of patients with chronic adrenal insufficiency due to corticosteroids at Hai Duong Provincial General Hospital. Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study, conducted on 43 patients diagnosed with chronic adrenal insufficiency due to corticosteroid treatment at the Department of Endocrinology and Geriatrics from November 2023 to January 2024. Data were collected from medical records, clinical examination and paraclinical tests. Results: 90,7% had Cushing's syndrome and fatigue symptoms. 100% of patients had decreased morning blood cortisol levels (<83,3 nmol/L), 72,1% had decreased blood ACTH. Related factors: 81,4% had a history of bone and joint diseases; 58,1% used corticosteroids for more than 1 year. Conclusion: Prolonged use of glucocorticoids increases the risk of chronic adrenal insufficiency. It is necessary to strengthen drug management and raise awareness among patients and health workers to limit dangerous drug complications.
