Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of post vaginal delivery hemorrhage at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from 2023 to 2024. Methods: A retrospective, descriptive study was conducted on all parturients with gestational age ≥ 28 weeks who experienced postpartum hemorrhage following vaginal delivery (≥ 500 ml blood loss within the first 24 hours) at Hanoi Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024. Clinical and paraclinical characteristics of these cases were described based on archived medical records. Results: The incidence of postpartum hemorrhage following vaginal delivery was 120 cases (0,84%) in 2023 and 117 cases (0,95%) in 2024. The etiologies of postpartum hemorrhage after vaginal delivery included uterine atony (73%), genital tract trauma (63,7%), and placental causes (11,8%). Tachycardia with heart rate > 100 beats per minute was more suggestive of postpartum hemorrhage compared to maternal blood pressure changes. Hemoglobin levels in postpartum women with hemorrhage demonstrated weak correlation with the severity of postpartum bleeding. Conclusion: The incidence of postpartum hemorrhage following vaginal delivery at Hanoi Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital is relatively low. In cases of postpartum hemorrhage after vaginal delivery, tachycardia serves as the primary clinical warning sign, preceding alterations in blood pressure and hemoglobin levels.
