RESULTS OF USING A PEDICLED PERFORATED THORACIC VASCULAR FLAP IN PARTIAL BREAST RECONSTRUCTION DURING BREAST-CONSERVING SURGERY AT CHO RAY HOSPITAL

Abstract

Background: The emergence of breast-conserving surgery combined with radiotherapy as the treatment of choice for early stage breast cancer has resulted in greater focus on oncoplastic breast surgery. The use of perforator flaps has particularly gained in reputation for its effectiveness in the reconstruction of partial breast defects at Cho Ray hospital. Herein, we present our experience with the use of thoracodorsal artery perforator (TDAP) and lateral intercostal artery perforator (LICAP) flaps. and anterior intercostal artery perforator (AICAP) flaps. Methods: Prospective descriptive case series. This study included 44 patients who underwent breast reconstruction using TDAP or LICAP or AICAP flaps at our hospital from Mar 2025 to December 2025. Data from patient medical records, and patient satisfaction surveys, which were conducted 3 months postoperatively, were evaluated. Results: TDAP, LICAP and AICAP flap-based reconstructions were performed in 12; 18 and 14 patients, respectively. One patient developed minor bleeding complications that not required additional intervention. Overall patient satisfaction was observed to be excellent in 36 (81.8%) patients, and good in 6 (13.6%). Conclusion: Based on our experience, breast reconstruction using TDAP, LICAP, or AICAP flaps is an effective reconstruction technique for small to medium-sized breast defects while performing breast-conserving surgery.
