ASSESSING THE OUTCOMES OF EPISIOTOMY DURING PARTURITION AT NAM DINH OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: To assess the outcomes and various factors affecting the results of episiotomy during parturition in women at Nam Dinh Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital.
Methods: A descriptive, retrospective study of women who had episiotomies after giving birth vaginally at Nam Dinh Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital.
Results: The study comprised 727 records. According to prenatal ultrasound, the majority of fetuses had a biparietal diameter of 90–95 mm (69.18%) and weighed between 2500 and 3500 grams (88.89%). 96.01% of mothers had grade II perineal injuries, 48.01% of births were induced, and 3.99% had grade III injuries. Eight instances (0.92%) suffered hematomas during episiotomy, while 4.13% of cases experienced edema one day after delivery. Mothers whose fetuses weighed more than 3500 grams had a grade III damage risk of 31.2%. Fetal weight and the severity of perineal damage were correlated (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Transurethral resection during childbirth is a common procedure, with most perineal injuries being grade II (no anal sphincter injury). The degree of perineal damage and fetal weight are correlated (p<0.05).
