Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of labor induction using an improved Foley catheter compared with Propess in pregnancies at ≥37 weeks’ gestation at Phu Tho Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in 2025.

Methods: A comparative descriptive study was conducted on 30 women at ≥37 weeks’ gestation undergoing labor induction with an improved Foley catheter (n = 13) or Propess (n = 17) at Department of Obstetrics 3 from January to October 2025.

Results: The mean maternal age was comparable between the two groups. The main indication for induction was post-term pregnancy. Bishop scores improved significantly after intervention in both groups (p < 0.05). The time from insertion to removal was significantly shorter in the Foley group than in the Propess group (p < 0.001). The induction success rate did not differ significantly between the two groups.

Conclusion: The improved Foley catheter demonstrated comparable effectiveness to Propess for labor induction at ≥37 weeks’ gestation while significantly shortening intervention time, suggesting it is a feasible alternative in clinical practice.
