Abstract
Objective: This study describes the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of patients who underwent pancreatic duct exploration and lithotripsy with pancreatoscope in the treatment of chronic pancreatitis at Viet Duc University Hospital.
Subjects and method: Descriptive, prospective study on patients with chronic pancreatitis with the indication for pancreatic duct exploration and lithotripsy with pancreatoscope at Viet Duc University Hospital from January 2024 to August 2025.
Results: Of all 13 patients, 53.8% were males. The average age group was between 40 to 60 years old (69.2%). All patients had abdominal pain, with each suffered from 2.5 episodes of pain, with the average VAS score of 5.8. All patients had pancreatic head stones, while 46.2% had pancreatic body and tail stones. The rate of complete stone clearance was 46.2%, and the rate of reaching the duodenum with the scope was 46.2%. The average length of hospital stay was 9,4 days, from 5 to 15 days. There was 3 patients with complications (23.1%) and no post-operative death.
Conclusion: Pancreatic duct exploration and lithotripsy with pancreatoscope is a safe procedure, with good early result, short length of hospital stays and recovery, while maintain an acceptable complication rate. These preliminary results show the efficacy of the method in the treatment of chronic pancreatitis.
