AESTHETIC AND FUNCTIONAL OUTCOMES AFTER UPPER EYELID BLEPHAROPLASTY IN PATIENTS WITH DERMATOCHALASIS

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate early aesthetic and functional outcomes and complications after upper eyelid blepharoplasty in patients with dermatochalasis.


Subjects and methods: A prospective before-and-after study was conducted in 44 patients at Military Hospital 175 Hospital from June to December 2025. Morphometric indices were assessed before surgery and at 1 and 3 months; scar quality, function, and complications were recorded through Month 3.


Results: The mean age was 45.6 ± 8.4 years, and 90.9% were women. Skin excision with fat removal was performed in 65.9%. At 3 months, the central lid margin-to-crease distance increased from 4.5 ± 1.1 to 6.4 ± 0.7 mm, palpebral fissure height increased from 9.4 ± 0.7 to 10.1 ± 0.7 mm, and inter-eyelid crease difference decreased from 1.2 ± 0.6 to 0.6 ± 0.4 mm (all p < 0.001). Good results were achieved in 79.5%; 95.5% were satisfied or very satisfied, and 87.9% of patients with preoperative heaviness or eye fatigue improved. Mild residual complications occurred in 9.1%; no major complication or reoperation was recorded.


Conclusion: Upper blepharoplasty improved eyelid morphology, symmetry, functional symptoms, and satisfaction at 3 months.
