THE SOFTENING AND CERVICAL-DILATING EFFECT OF THE MODIFIED COOK BALL IN INDUCING LABOR AT NAM DINH OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To assess the effectiveness of cervical ripening and several aspects associated with its effectiveness using the modified Cook balloon.
Subjects and methods: Between January 1, 2026, and March 31, 2026, a prospective descriptive study was undertaken at Nam Dinh Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital on pregnant women who had been indicated for labor induction with the modified Cook balloon.
Results: 42 pregnant women participated in the study. The study respondents had an average age of 26.81 ± 5.43 years. The vast majority (61.9%) were first-time mothers. 85.7% of cases had a gestational age between 40 and 41 weeks. All patients demonstrated an increase in Bishop score after labor induction, with a 4-point change being the most common, accounting for 28.6%. There were 34 cases of effective cervical ripening, accounting for 81% of the total; the failure rate was 19%. Before balloon deployment, there was a link between labor induction results, cervical dilatation, and Bishop score. The difference was not significant (p > 0.05).
Conclusion: All pregnant women who received labor induction with the modified Cook balloon had an increase in Bishop score, and cervical ripening with the modified Cook balloon was highly effective (81% success rate).
