APPLIED ANATOMY OF THE GLENOID FOR REVERSE SHOULDER ARTHROPLASTY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to describe the anatomical characteristics of the glenoid in Vietnamese individuals for application in reverse shoulder arthroplasty.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 275 glenoids from 245 patients who underwent 3D computed tomography at Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital from January 2022 to December 2025. Parameters measured included glenoid dimensions, glenoid inclination angles, scapular neck length, and scapular neck angle.
Results: The mean superior-inferior glenoid diameter was 33.67±3.24 mm, and the anterior-posterior diameter was 23.71±2.57 mm, both smaller than those reported in Western populations. The reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) angle was approximately 10° greater than the total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) angle. Most glenoids demonstrated posterior inclination. The mean scapular neck length was 12.11±3.91 mm. No significant differences were observed between sides or sexes.
Conclusion: The glenoid size in the Vietnamese population is smaller than that in Western populations. The RTSA angle should be considered as a reference parameter for baseplate positioning in reverse shoulder arthroplasty.
